When matching price, be sure to match quality too!
During the course of a work week I am probably asked 4 or 5 times if we price match our competitors. My answer is always the same – if the competitor carries the same consumer protection as us, if they have the same record with the authorities as we do and if they have the same customer reputation, then I will be glad to price match.
In 9 years as owner of the company I have maybe price matched a handful of times. You see all pool companies are not created equally. That guy working for himself out of his garage probably does so without a license, typically doesn’t carry worker’s compensation insurance, almost certainly doesn’t carry general liability insurance and has no-one to help him clean his pools when he is sick, his truck breaks down or he has a family emergency.
We carry all of these insurances and they protect YOU, the consumer, in the event that my employee hurts himself while he is on your property or from accidental damage to your home caused by his/her actions.
Most of our new customers come to us as referrals from our existing customer base and for that we are eternally grateful. Some however, come to us completely by chance and we are always amazed to hear the stories they tell us about their experiences with ‘other’ pool companies.
When customers see the testimonials that we have been given over the years, the fact that we have ZERO complaints against our state license EVER, ZERO complaints against us with the BBB EVER and our A rating on Angie’s List, they typically can’t wait to sign up and the price matching request suddenly seems to be less of an issue.
We truly wish all pool companies were more professional, took greater pride in their work and realized the growth they could achieve by treating people right each and every time.
Regrettably they are not, so keep sending your fellow pool owners our way and we will take care of them until they are!
