In Memory of Don Carey: A Pillar of Windermere Pool Services
We have received many telephone calls and emails over the last 48 hours and wanted to confirm the incredibly sad news that our Senior Repair Tech Don Carey has passed away after a short illness.
Don has been a fixture here since June of 2009 and is our longest serving employee by some way. His punctuality, reliability and strong work ethic quickly marked him out as the kind of guy that both customers and employees could rely upon and he leaves us the poorer for his passing.
When Don joined us all those years ago Windermere Pool Services was a very different place. Operating out of storage premises on Colonial Drive and a room in my house, we had just a few employees, less than 6 vehicles on the road and just a couple of hundred customers. Don was the only repair tech and I answered every office phone call, so it was very much ‘The Joe and Don Show’. We worked hard every day to earn our reputation in the area and Don’s honesty and integrity in the field with customers was a huge part of that.
“Windermere Pools has been servicing our pool for the last 10 years and we can’t say enough great things about Joe, Don and the rest of the staff. All of our calls have been responded to quickly and efficiently and all questions answered. Joe and Don have gone above and beyond all expectations to make sure we are always satisfied with any service they have performed for us.” – Laurie
“Don, our repairman, is always timely to arrive and polite. When there is a problem he explains in an easy to understand way and provides options that fit our budget.” – Michelle L.
Today we are 20 employees strong, with the same number of vehicles on the road daily. We operate from our own warehouse property and make almost 50,000 house visits a year.
I can’t overstate the fundamental role that Don played in the company’s success, and I and my family will be eternally grateful to him that he contributed so much towards that.
I shall miss the times we had working together whether grunting and straining to lift pool heaters over bushes and around trees . . . or grunting and straining trying to pull in a new pool light, with him by the pool equipment and me underwater. As you can no doubt gather there was a lot of grunting and straining (especially as we got older), but we also had a good share of laughs together with pride at a job well done.
It’s not going to be the same without him.

There will be a small family service held in Pennsylvania to mark Don’s passing.
